The Health Professions Education (HPE) program is a cornerstone initiative by HENAR aimed at systematically transforming Armenia’s medical education landscape. It focuses on developing a strong cadre of skilled educators and academic leaders by equipping participants with advanced competencies in teaching, curriculum design, assessment, and leadership. In partnership with the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM) and aligned with national reforms, the HPE program includes a Master’s Degree in Health Professions Education (MSHPE) and a Training of Trainers (ToT) component. As an anchor project, it lays the foundation for a sustainable, innovative, and high-quality medical education system in Armenia.

The Pediatric Residency Program of Armenia marks a transformative shift in Post-Graduate Medical Education, introducing the country’s resident-centered training model. Developed with key national institutions and expertise from the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, the program aligns global standards with local needs, offering world-class training and innovative leadership, paving the way for its integration into Armenia’s medical education system.

Rural Family Medicine Retraining Program (RFMR)
In collaboration with the Health for Armenia Foundation (HFA), HENAR implements the Medical Knowledge and Skills pillar of HFA’s Healthcare Leadership Program. This pillar strengthens the clinical competencies of healthcare professionals through structured training that combines theory with practical skill development.The RFMR program, developed in partnership with the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM), emphasizes evidence-based medicine and hands-on training to ensure participants can apply up-to-date clinical knowledge in real-world settings.

Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Fellowship Program
The Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Fellowship Program, delivered in 2022-2023, is a 10-month hybrid training initiative aimed at enhancing the capacities of Armenia's and Artsakh's healthcare workforce in critical rehabilitation areas, including neurorehabilitation, burn care, orthopedics, and mental health. The program exemplifies the power of partnerships, uniting leading organizations to foster systemic transformation in rehabilitation services.

Other Projects
in Health Education
Some other initiatives in medical education focus on introducing innovative teaching methods and modernized content to enhance the skills of care providers. By establishing sustainable models and ensuring program continuity, these projects aim to build a resilient and well-equipped healthcare workforce in Armenia.
This joint initiative with Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi (YSMU) is set to establish a training site for Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association (AHA), aiming to create a high-quality and sustainable training facility where certified first aid BLS instructors will be equipped to teach vital first aid skills.
Target trainee audiences include volunteers from the Heart Safe City project, medical students, residents, fellows, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and other wider groups.

HENAR’s faculty development programs are integral to all its initiatives, including the Pediatric Residency Program, Health for Armenia’s Family Medicine Fellowship, Community Health Worker training, and more. These programs focus on equipping health professions educators with advanced teaching, mentoring, and leadership skills, enabling them to foster the next generation of high-quality healthcare providers. By building the capacity of faculty to deliver evidence-based education and mentor effectively, HENAR amplifies its impact, creating a ripple effect that strengthens the healthcare workforce. This investment in educators is pivotal for ensuring the development of competent health workers, ultimately leading to improved population health outcomes and a more resilient healthcare system.
HENAR is dedicated to developing some regional primary care centers into robust teaching sites for family medicine, enhancing their capacity to serve as hubs for education and professional development. Through initiatives like the Family Medicine Fellowship in collaboration with Health for Armenia, or Community Health Worker (CHW) program, we focus on building the competencies of clinical staff to effectively mentor students and residents during rotations. By integrating education into the function of regional primary care centers, HENAR targets to ensure the sustainability of workforce development and strengthens the healthcare system at its core.
